Welcome to Newsletter Twitter!

Reply to this email if you can figure out why I wrote “Newsletter Twitter: instead of “Newsletter 10.”

Hello all and welcome to the November edition! YES, I KNOW, I KNOW. It is December. I have failed you all in delivering an edition of this newsletter during November. I AM SORRY. Truthfully, it was an honest procrastination sesh. But I am writing now and and all the plus side, that means you get TWO emails during the month of December. 2 whole emails !! Can you believe it ??

I am honestly not sure what I wanna talk about in this edition. November was a roller coaster of a month. But let’s just start and see where the writing takes me.

But first, some shout-outs.
1. Shout out Gabbie Paz for being my most recent subscriber and VasaVita believer
2. Shout out Vishnu for journeying up to NJ/NYC this week
3. Shout out Tyler Farley for being an absolute GOAT
4. Shout out Curtis Fisher for being one of the most entrepreneurial and adventurous people I know
5. Shout out Nikita for being a great friend and coffee chat buddy

👁️ am thankful 4 U

We just celebrated Thanksgiving last week. We baked and cooked a lot of food and spent time with family and I really enjoyed it. But how do you actually practice gratitude and being thankful?

I saw this video on social media the other day that said, “When you’re in the shower, all you think about is the work you need to do when you get out of the shower, and not the warm water hitting your body. When you’re doing the work you get to do, all you’re thinking about is how soon you can finish it to go eat dinner, and not the honor it is to do the work you’re doing. When you are eating your dinner, all you’re thinking about is what you have to do tomorrow, and not how good the food tastes.” The video goes on and on but you get the gist.

I found this to be very true for myself I look forward to something so much, and when it comes, I find myself so eager and excited for the next moment. And the next and the next and the next – a series of continuous chasing. But surely, this is not practicing gratitude at all! So how do I learn to appreciate the moment?

I’ve started to try slowly. In my recent showers, I take a second to close my eyes and feel the hot water. When I get out of the car from coming home, if it’s not too cold, I try to take a second and look at my house and listen to the sounds around me. When I’m at a party, I try to take a few breaths and remember how much I’ve been looking forward to this event. Small things like these have helped me stay in the moment better and practice gratitude a little bit stronger.

Treat Compliments Like Candy

Do you ever struggle with how to practice gratitude? Or struggle to show your friends and family just how much you truly care about them? Sometimes I feel that I don’t do enough to show the people around me just how much they truly mean to me, and so one thing I’ve started to do is be extremely generous with giving out compliments.

When I walk into a room and see someone I haven’t seen in so long and have missed or when I have an enjoyable Uber ride or when a stranger does me a favor, I have been making a point to dole out a compliment like candy on Halloween, because I have found that this makes me feel more connected to that person. But also, it enables me to showcase to them my gratitude for them. And I don’t necessarily mean surface level compliments about appearance (although those are lovely), I’m talking about deep, character-oriented compliments. Compliments about how you missed someone or how funny someone is or how kind you believe someone to be or how much someone’s presence lights up a room.

I believe we live in an age where people are afraid to share their admirations for others with each other. And for me, I find that giving out compliments, both to someone you do and don’t know, really helps to unite the relationship (mentorship, friendship, whatever ship we are talking about), and deepen those connections.

Try it out next time you are out and about and let me know what you think!
